Even in the 1960’s and 70’s Antoine was little known outside France, but there he had major impact with ‘Les Elucubrations’ that perhaps have not travelled the distance. Other tracks, like the disturbingly simple ‘Petite fille ne crois pas’ stand alongside Donovan and Dylan by being wholly unpretentious – a statement – like ‘why do you treat me like you do’ and ‘its’ all over now’, and something to be learned from. Some would say a copy of both Donovan and Dylan, though Antoine offered something special that neither could. But what was it? Listen.
