On November 25, 2013, icon of the demi-monde Alexander Geist will release his next single “A Woman’s Right to Choose”, a lyrically sophisticated, gothic-erotic groove with a sharp political intent. Once again produced by Joey Hansom, the track sees Geist shift toward a minimalist R&B glamor with a vaudevillian twist, crooning his enigmatic wit over an insistent bassline, lifted by a seductive saxophone riff played by band member Matthias Mann. The single is dedicated to war-crimes whistle-blower Chelsea Manning and will be released physically as an illustrated fold-out poster with a download code. A music video by Imogen Heath (who has previously directed clips for The Knife and Planningtorock) will accompany the track. Since last year’s 7″ single “Bad Language”, Alexander Geist has garnered considerable press attention and plenty of new fans, having traveled from Berlin to Lisbon, via Tel Aviv, London and Rome to share his charismatic stage presence. Of the new single, Geist says: “I wanted to write a song which explored gender identity in a much more expansive way than it is usually allowed in pop music, but I wanted to do so in my usual sardonic manner. I wanted to satirize the paranoid fears of trans people and likewise make a case for a trans-feminist political alliance. The idea of releasing the single as a poster is part of an ongoing exploration of the remnants of pop culture – what is my identity as a recording artist in the digital age?”
