The opening track of Soft Control, shared on June 2 with the news of the album: pulsing synths and distorted stereo guitars, a voodoo-tinged New Orleans feel, and gospel-style voices answering Greg Dulli’s gritty lead – claustrophobic and relentless, about self-criticism and the weight of expectation, with a nod to the Who’s Eminence Front. Part of the record was made at Marigny Studios in New Orleans.
Written by Greg Dulli. The Afghan Whigs, with guests including former drummer Patrick Keeler, Petra Haden and Bo Koster. Recorded at Fireside Sound, Joshua Tree; Marigny Studios, New Orleans; Gold Diggers Sound, Los Angeles; and Sycamore, Cincinnati – twenty-two songs, cut down to ten. From Soft Control, Royal Cream / BMG, August 21, 2026.
