Brian Eno and Beatie Wolfe go back to “Before Life”, from Liminal – the “dark matter music” that closed their trilogy with Luminal and Lateral in 2025 – and turn it into Afterlife: six slow minutes of drift, voice and long-decaying tones. It was first played for World Sleep Day in March and had passed ten million streams before its full release in June.

Written, performed and produced by Brian Eno and Beatie Wolfe. A reimagining of “Before Life” from Liminal, Verve, 2025. Photograph: Isaac Roberts, The Great Nebula in Andromeda, December 29, 1888 – the first photograph to show the spiral form of the galaxy – plate from Roberts’s A Selection of Photographs of Stars, Star-clusters and Nebulae.
