Track nine, shared on the eve of the album: a funky number with drums out of Isaac Hayes’s Theme from Shaft and a Bobby Womack swell, soaring on top with bitterness underneath. Soft Control came out the next day, August 21 – ten songs chosen from the twenty-two the band recorded in Joshua Tree, New Orleans, Los Angeles and Cincinnati.
Written by Greg Dulli. The Afghan Whigs, with guests including former drummer Patrick Keeler, Petra Haden and Bo Koster. Recorded at Fireside Sound, Joshua Tree; Marigny Studios, New Orleans; Gold Diggers Sound, Los Angeles; and Sycamore, Cincinnati – twenty-two songs, cut down to ten.
