The third single from The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy, and the coldest turn on it: synth lines that run backwards, a glittering keyboard chorus and an off-beat ska skip under Sean Ono Lennon’s uneasy vocal. Lennon has said that some people already see us as biological machines, due to be replaced by robots – and that some are working to make it happen. His answer is that living, breathing and feeling still count for something, and that the choice is still ours.
Produced by Les Claypool and Sean Ono Lennon. Les Claypool and Sean Ono Lennon: vocals and all instruments. Recorded at Rancho Relaxo, Sonoma County, and The Farm, New York, over more than three years. Visualizer illustrated by Rich Ragsdale, from his comic for the album, and animated by Cage Claypool. From The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy, ATO Records, May 1, 2026. Photograph: Étienne-Jules Marey, Walking, chronophotograph on a fixed plate, 1883 – one man taken again and again on a single plate as he crosses the black shed of Marey’s Station Physiologique in Paris, the body turned into a sequence of positions.
