BEN WATT TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE VERSION OF ‘NATHANIEL’ FOLLOWING ALBUM VICTORY AT AIM AWARDS 2014 AND SAMUEL JOHNSON PRIZE NOMINATION FOR HIS RECENT MEMOIR.
Fresh from picking up the award for ‘Best Difficult Second Album’ at the AIM Independent Music Awards 2104 in London for ‘Hendra’ – his first album for thirty-one years – and seeing his recent acclaimed memoir of his parents’ lives ‘Romany and Tom’ secure a nomination for the prestigious Samuel Johnson Prize 2014 (the UK’s premier non-fiction award) on the same day, Ben Watt will release a brand new radio mix of standout album cut ‘Nathaniel’ on October 20. The track will be accompanied by new Ewan Pearson remixes on his imprint Unmade Road, distributed by Caroline.
‘The song ‘Nathaniel’ was inspired by a simple roadside memorial I saw in Oregon,’ says Watt. ‘It is about how we deal with grief, in private and in public. It is also about love and anger and strength of character and has some merciless lead guitar from Bernard Butler.’
The release coincides with a new UK and Ireland tour starting on Oct 24 and ending at London’s Village Underground on Nov 10 with his new trio, featuring central album collaborators Bernard Butler (ex-Suede, Trans, Bert Jansch) on electric guitar and Martin Ditcham (Talk Talk, The Waterboys, Sade) on drums and percussion.
