Delta Machine (and, particularly, Soothe My Soul) is perhaps Martin Gore’s best synth work ever. His VCMG project with Vince Clarke seems to have blown some creative doors off the hinges. He takes an ordinary four-on-the-floor techno rhythm and layers it with surprises throughout the song, creating a super-lush musical landscape. Add some sexually-dominating lyrics and I happily find myself getting lost in this song over and over.
