California no-fi howlers The Quiet Americans are anything but. Brash and gritty, they sound straight out of a tucked-away crate in Amoeba’s Staff Picks section from the 1980’s. This is likely due to the fact that the band recorded last year’s debut EP, Medicine, on a Tascam eight-track recorder, whose “wobbly uncertainty” warps the band’s raw delivery. On “Weird Mountain”, Medicine’s closing track, vocalist and songwriter Luke Giffen’s harmonies thrash like ‘60s noise rock purveyors The Sonics and Link Wray. [Source]
