The Stooges is the self-titled debut of the rock band The Stooges. It was released in August 1969 and peaked at number 106 on the Billboard album charts. Two songs, “I Wanna Be Your Dog” and “1969”, were released as singles. It is widely considered as one of the best proto punk albums. With Ron Asheton’s walls of distortion, and distorted wah wah solos, textures and power chord riffs it is also considered to have had an impact on hard rock. Lyrically Iggy Pop’s lyrics are minimalistic and the tracks “Ann” and “We Will Fall” are clearly influenced by Jim Morrison who he has stated as his primary influence and the track “Ann” bears resemblance to The Doors song “The Crystal Ship”.
