Solomon Burke’s 1964 Atlantic single, produced by Bert Berns – a sermon in soul form from the former boy preacher Atlantic’s Jerry Wexler called the greatest male soul singer of all time. It only reached No. 58 on the Billboard pop chart, but the song travelled: The Rolling Stones cut it in 1965, Wilson Pickett had the bigger hit with it in 1967, and The Blues Brothers made it a movie showstopper in 1980. Rhino posted this official audio for its Soul Sunday series.
