Track seven of I Wrote You A Letter, posted on the eve of the album’s release on September 25: under three minutes of lo-fi dream pop with a fuzzy, analog feel, the microphones pushed hard and a small, hypnotic hook glowing through the haze. It is the clearest case on the record of what Anthony Gonzalez was after – the instinct and looseness of M83’s earliest bedroom recordings, with the big budgets, the endless fine-tuning and the calculated arrangements stripped away.
Written by Anthony Gonzalez. Produced by Anthony Gonzalez and Benoît de Villeneuve. From I Wrote You A Letter, Other Suns, September 25, 2026. Photograph: Georges Demenÿ, Photographie de la parole, c. 1892 – chronophotographs, made by Étienne-Jules Marey’s method, of Demenÿ’s own face as he says “Je vous aime”, a love message frame by frame for his phonoscope, which played such sequences back in motion; published in Paris-Photographe. Bibliothèque nationale de France. Shown here in negative.
