The Supremes’ Motown heartbreak, taken by Diamanda Galás to the edge of a scream. It is the third song on Malediction and Prayer, recorded live on her Concert for the Damned tour between November 1996 and June 1997 – voice and piano only, among songs by Phil Ochs, Son House, Willie Dixon and Shel Silverstein, poems by Baudelaire and Pasolini, and “Gloomy Sunday”. Here the empty world is not a sigh but a sentence.
Diamanda Galás (voice, piano). Written by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland. Recorded live on the Concert for the Damned tour, November 1996 – June 1997; produced by Diamanda Galás.
