World’s Fair – Company Fair (2013)

Coordinating seven people isn’t easy. A decision as simple as where to eat dinner can turn contentious when more than a few opinions are involved. Nonetheless, Interview sat down with World’s Fair, the six-emcee-and-one-DJ hip hop collective from Queens, just before their show at the Knitting Factory last month. Though we didn’t know it at the time, a seven-person interview—all of its interruptions, tangents and contradictions included—was the ideal introduction into the world of World’s Fair. The group thrives on paradox. They’re simultaneously one sound and six; old school and new; competitive and collaborative. Like their native Queens, the collective and their forthcoming record, Bastards of the Party, have mastered the art of unlikely combinations. [Source]

SpaceGhostPurrp – The Black God (2012)

SpaceGhostPurrp last night dropped a video for ‘The Black God’, the first to appear in support of his forthcoming album. Filmed in and around his hometown of Miami, FL, it’s everything you could ask for with urban decay, gold teeth, cash, fire, girls and a card game all ticked off. The video was conceived by the mysterious producer/rapper himself. [Source]

Public Enemy – 911 Is A Joke (1990)

The single “911 Is a Joke” reached number one on the Hot Rap Singles.According to Flavor Flav, he was given the idea by Chuck D to write the song, “He gave me that as a project to do [...] and I went and wrote the record. I went and got high and wrote the record. I went and got ripped, I went and got out of my mind, and I started speaking all kinds of crazy shit ‘cos usually back in the days when I used to smoke, it used to broaden my ideas and everything”. The humorous and satirical lyrics of the song were reflected in its music video, which featured a severely injured Flav being mistreated by a remiss, overdue ambulence staff.

Spank Rock feat. Santigold – Car Song (2011)

Spankrock we like. Santigold we like. This pairing seems to have been crafted just for our receptive ears. Check out this track titled “Car Song” via Australian radio station Triple J. The track is set to feature on his upcoming album Everything Is Boring and Everyone Is a Fucking Liar which is set for release on September 27th via his Bad Blood Records. [Source]

Spank Rock – Nasty (2011)

Slap the floor, push it back on your dick, or pop your pussy—”Nasty” works for whatever your doing with organs. The future sounds so utopian on the new track from Spank Rock’ forthcoming album Everything is Boring and Everyone is a Fucking Liar. New Yorker Le1f, “the youngest producer on the album” according to Spank, built the beat and New Orleans queen Big Freedia arrived to the party sounding as dirty as ever. [Source]

tUnE-yArDs – Gangsta (Ad-Rock Remix) (2011)

It was only a matter of time before an MC got ahold of the Merril Garbus’ thumpin art-folk track “Gangsta” from tUnE-yArDs‘ W H O K I L L, and what do you know it was none other than Beastie Boys‘ Ad-Rock who took the lead. The King’s signature sound is all over the remix, which is available as part of a newly announced Gangsta 12″. [Source]
